Trev Wilcox (more below) began “Intercept Combatives” as a semi-private outdoor training group in Hong Kong. The training then was a loose, hybrid expression of Jeet Kune Do, MMA and Personal Defense. The name “Intercept Combatives” was a reference to our conceptual foundation in Jeet Kune Do (Way of the Intercepting Fist), and it was eventually abbreviated to iCombatives, purely because it was less of a mouthful to say than Intercept Combatives.

With the abbreviation of the name also came a shift in the way we thought about our training and, as it goes, actually became even more closely aligned with our understanding and expression of Jeet Kune Do. While the “i” in iCombatives still stood for Intercept, philosophically, it also came to refer to the idea that training is all about “I”, or more accurately YOU – the athlete. There are no “styles” of combat (or at least there shouldn’t be); only results. It’s about empowering YOU and raising YOUR CAPACITY, helping you go beyond pre-conceived limitations to find out where your true physical and mental limitations lie. Realistic combative training is a vehicle that helps you on a path of self-discovery to that end. This is the true purpose of training.

iCombatives, as an online journal began as a way for Trevor to chronicle his thoughts and training, and subsequently shared publicly for those who might find any of it useful. Also understanding that he in no way knows all the answers and that there are so many fantastic instructors, iCombatives Online later became a platform for instructors across the globe to also share their knowledge of the reality-based martial arts.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Logo” font_container=”tag:h3|font_size:24px|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Roboto%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C500%2C500italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:300%20light%20regular%3A300%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1461121238155{margin-top: 0px !important;margin-right: 0px !important;margin-bottom: 0px !important;margin-left: 0px !important;}”][vc_column_text]The iCombatives logo is a visual representation of our name (see above) and our holistic philosophy. The center image is a tribute to our Jeet Kune Do “heritage” and shows a stop-kick in action, symbolizing the ideal of “interception”, our namesake. The triangle is symbolic of strength (a triangle being the strongest geometrical shape) as well as the synergy of mind/body/spirit, each aspect of which is inscribed in Chinese in each corner of the triangle.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row bg_type=”grad” bg_grad=”background: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, color-stop(0%, #E5E5E5), color-stop(100%, #F5F5F5));background: -moz-linear-gradient(top,#E5E5E5 0%,#F5F5F5 100%);background: -webkit-linear-gradient(top,#E5E5E5 0%,#F5F5F5 100%);background: -o-linear-gradient(top,#E5E5E5 0%,#F5F5F5 100%);background: -ms-linear-gradient(top,#E5E5E5 0%,#F5F5F5 100%);background: linear-gradient(top,#E5E5E5 0%,#F5F5F5 100%);” el_class=”threequarter-center”][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Who’s Behind iCombatives?” font_container=”tag:h3|font_size:24px|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Roboto%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C500%2C500italic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:300%20light%20regular%3A300%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1461122091304{margin-top: 0px !important;margin-right: 0px !important;margin-bottom: 0px !important;margin-left: 0px !important;}”][vc_column_text]facecrushShort answer:
this guy – Trev Wilcox

Trev Wilcox has been involved in the martial arts since 1988, which have included training, teaching and competing. Trev has constantly studied and cross-trained in a variety of systems in order to improve his understanding of the totality of martial art and enhance his martial prowess. This includes (in no specific order) Senshido, Hap Ki Do, Tae Kwon Do, Kickboxing, Freestyle Karate, Muay Thai, Capoeira, Brazilian Jiujitsu, Wing Chun, Jun Fan, Kali and Personal Defense Readiness.

In 2011, Trev founded iCombatives as a platform for experimenting and training in  “reality-based martial arts (RBMA)”: functional martial art systems and tactics that are proven effective in real fight situations, be it the ring, the cage, the streets, or the battlefield. To Trev, RBMA was about finding out what works in any context when someone is trying their best to dominate you within the parameters (or lack thereof) of that context and how you can adapt your skillsets accordingly. RBMA, or iCombatives specifically, is more than “RBSD”; it’s about embracing totality and adapability. In Bruce Lee’s words, it’s “the art of expressing the human body, in combative form”, challenging yourself, smashing through old limitations, and becoming a better you.

In decluttering, the only official organizational affiliation Trev has maintained is that with Senshido International, and the training programs offered in Hong Kong are based primarily on a blend of Senshido and Jeet Kune Do Concepts.
